Stay at Home Moms/Dads

What are your thoughts on stay at home moms/dads? In general? Specifically for an adopted child? Would working part-time be ok?

We could use some advice as we consider this. Thanks!

I worked full time until we brought Jackson home. I don't know your full situation (give me some time to read the whole blog!), but Jackson was our first and we were determined that I would be home as much as possible with him. I'm a nurse, so I was able to work two twelve hour days a week, which had me at home more often than not.

If we could afford it, I would absolutely be a SAHM. Perhaps when we pay off our newest little guy I'll be able to.

Now this is only my OPINION, not a judgement on Mom's that choose (or have) to work. I waited a very, very long time to be a Mommy, and I feel like I should be the one at home with my son. I sympathize and support those that can't be at home as much as they want to.

I do think it's important to stay at home as much as you're able when they're newly home, but again, you have to do what you have to do. Minimize the exposure to other caregivers as you can to encourage attachment and bonding to you.

Whew! This went on a lot longer than I intended! Thanks for asking the question. I think it's one that all Moms struggle with.

Thanks Kim! I wish it was an easier decision, one way or another.

We adopted our son from K-grad in June of last year. He is so wonderful, best thing we ever did. I have been a SAHM since we got home. It would be so nice if I could go back to work and let my husband stay home for awhile (he would love it) but we live in the worst state re: jobs. Actually, I need to find something. I know this time we have spent together has been great for bonding. Good luck on finding your lil one :)

I recently came across your blog and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my first comment. I don't know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog. I will keep visiting this blog very often.
