Here is the news we did not want to hear. Russia announced this morning that it will halt all adoptions until the U.S. and Russia come to a formal agreement governing adoptions.
We especially pray for two families we know that are currently in Russia and just received a positive decision in court. It sounds like this delay will postpone their homecoming.
Updates to come as we receive them. Thanks for your messages.

This is terrible news.
"As long as we keep insisting that the typical adoption narrative is one in which a family comes home to joy and laughter and a happily ever after, cases like Hansen's will give fuel to the alarmists who insist that all adoptive parents are naive and unprepared. Russia will seem measured rather than vengeful when it threatens to temporarily suspend all U.S. adoptions—a knee-jerk reaction that will leave hundreds of children, many of whom have already met the families who plan to take them in, waiting in institutions for months or even years while "additional safeguards" (which will probably affect only a very few adoptions) are put in place." - From this article: http://www.slate.com/id/2250590/pagenum/all/#p2
Hey again,
Just heard this via We Have Room (http://www.facebook.com/pages/We-Have-Room/145754619039):
FYI: National Council for Adoption (NCFA) confirms with officials from the U.S. Dept of State that adoptions ARE still being processed by the Russian Ministry of Education (updated 11:36am). The rumor of a suspension of intercountry adoptions from Russia to the U.S. is currently false. Intercountry adoptions are still being processed by the Russian Ministry of Education until further notice.
Had you heard?
Our agency advised that the order was given by the MOFA, not the MOE. The MOE is in charge of adoptions, but since this announcement was at the end of the day we won't know more until tomorrow. Thanks for your concern!!!
